ZONE 10 A&1/2-[8(b+32)/98]

Every Bonsai, Gardening, Flower, Herb, Orchid book I look in has a different paint-by-number zone map in it. What's the deal? Is there ANY standard to these "ZONES"?

Since it is the USDA Hardiness Zone map, the department of agriculture is the authority. It's based on average minimum winter temperatures, which are subject to change over time.

Remember, as Bob Dylan wrote,

"The climes, they are a-changin'"

Well, sort of.

Regards,

Matt

In the Sunset Bonsai there is what I believe to be one of the best charts yet. It actually gives explanation of specific areas within zones, and why they differ from the surrounding area (cool air drainage paths, wind-breaks...cool stuff like that).
