I started a bonsai tool and supply business.... It would probably have been a better move (financially) to buy a boat or invest in Webvan.

Regards,

Matt

I'm glad to hear it. That's quite a nice piece of material that you've got in your gallery.

Best regards,
Carl

I discovered ebay.

seriously ebay has me in the vice big time, I am broke because I found an incredible deal on a b.c. rich warlock guitar and now I am broke and I need parts for my bike, and bills plus summers almost over and I can only work weekends during school. plus I jammed up my shoulder bad once more and I am trying to avoid doctors or anything my parents would kill me if I broke my bike and hurt myself.>

btw this means I am in debt like $6.18 for bonsai seeds. but seriously Ebay is my worst finacial mistake not just for bonsai but everything. I haven't been in bonsai long enough to make any other mistakes.

Matt,
I believe you are in an ever-growing club.....by all the new bonsai businesses I see in mags/WWW....for a year!
I think there is one main key ( actually a couple I guess) to longevity, and it isn't www.

BTW, regarding use of that "Webvan", my wife, who is an Xray tech and mammogram specialist for 37 years thought that after the success of traveling "mammogram vans" they started YEARS ago that a similar MALE-type business might go gang-busters doing prostate exams, colonoscopy and and other types of "privates" cancer screening. I dunno, maybe she had something there....since men WON'T go to the doctor except as a last resort! They could visit large businesses/malls as per blood mobile/ mammo clinics.
BTW, she wanted to call it "Feels On Wheels".....
So, don't sell that van yet!!
Dale

Matt
FWIW things were real slow when I first started in the business. So slow that sometime I had to speed up just to stop.
Adds in bonsai magazines helped a bit, so did my old web page. Not nearly enough though. I almost gave up many times.
Finally I broke down and put a small add in the yellow pages of the phone book. The phone started ringing as soon as the new book came out with my add.
That add worked. And I have been mostly in the red since I put it in there.
Seems like it helped the customers find me. Newbies to bonsai as well as the old guys.
