Yes...Yess...Another azalea question
For those of you who have answered my azalea questions before I have yet another one. My azalea thumb ain't as green as I would like it to be...LOL! Here goes:
The new growth on one of my azaleas has sprung out pail green. It has been that way for about two months now...plenty of time for it to darken up. Why is this? I was watering with tap-water, out of ignorance, earlier this year. But now I only use rain water. It is still planted in what I bought it in...looks like pure peat moss. The strange thing is, is that it continues to grow but everything that comes out is a pail green. And yes I have been fertilizing it too. I was thinking maybe it is the effect of the tap water I used earlier this year...resulting in too much lime? I have thought of placing coffe grinds on the surface of the soil to raise the acidity. I dunno....what do you all think? Thanks for any help, Ryan

Ryan, the new growth is always pale green. Miracle Grow makes a high acid fertilizer for camelias and azaleas. I think it's 30-10-10. I also think if you had too much lime you would see more problems.
Good luck, zube |

Yeah, I know...but the only reason I thought it was weird is because my other azalea's new growth isn't as pale... The one I am talking about is so pale it is almost yellow. Besides, don't you think that after about two months the new growth would have darkened up a bit?...my other azaleas did darken up during the two months. I dunno...thanks anyway Zube. What do you think about using coffee grounds placed on top of the soil to enhance the acidity? Thanks, Ryan

errr...aaa....I'm guessing you wouldn't suggest this? I read a discussion on it some time back and thought I would propose the idea agian. I would love to hear "Why" or the "Why not" in using coffee grounds from any one that has any knowledge on the subject...
