You guys are great! I appreciate the PMs too!
As for the bonsai purchases, I think I'm saving up for just one big one at the world conference.

Anyhoo, my mommy has been searching online and found this great place in my price range with a koi pond already put in!! How cool is that!?!?!?!

Yes, but do you really want to go back to living in her basement again?

Poosie,
Koi are great fun! My wife and I have had some for 4 years (they eat out of our hands now). Make sure they have some where to hide from predators. The pond water is great for the trees. Helps stressed out trees. I had a member bring some brush cherry cuttings with them to the august meeting at my house. The little guy's got pushed aside and forgotten about till the meeting was over. One of them had completely dried out and was totally wilted. No one took it cause they thought it was dead. I soaked it in the pond, mist sprayed it and put it in the shade. It is alive and well now! I have not done nearly as much reading on Koi as bonsai but have learned a thing or two allong the way, if you have any questions let me know!

Thanks dude! I wasn't aiming for a koi pond, but the house it comes with is totally right, so who knows?

Thumbs up

Well Poots, it looks like you're headed in somewhat the right direction. Only a couple thousand miles to go! (speaking as one who was born in Youngstown, lived all over the east, and after the winter of 1957 in Buffalo, left for the West Coast)

Besta luck to ya!

Mike

At this rate, Mike, I'll be in California in about .. 900 years

For those who have been following the saga:
It turns out the place with the koi pond also comes with a duck pond, since it has a 10X20' pool of standing water about 6" deep across the back, completely submerging the floor of the otherwise-charming gazebo. Pity.

But, I just faxed my agent with the papers for an offer on a very nice place in Hilliard, a suburb just west of Columbus. It has a very nice fenced yeard for the doggie and trees to romp about, with an old garden bed just aching for me to grow some maples and elms in-ground.

The indoor-setup will have to be in the basement with 100% artificial light, but the light they get from the current window is minimal (Ohio winter!) so it should not be a big impact.

Excitement!

Well.. You lose the koi pond but gain a growing bed.. Some things happen for a reason!

Good luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Our New Home!!!

Here are a couple shots of the new home of the Wuggums-En Bonsai Garden.
The deal is set, inspection done, financing in place -- closing February 10.
I have to say, this home-buying thing is overwhelming. I mean, I'm a freeekin' lawyer and I don't even know what the heck I just signed!

Anyway, input on ideas for the bonsai area is welcome. To the best of my knowledge, the rear of the house faces south, so the back fence runs east & west.

There's already a grow-bed in place, but my crazy GF has this wacky idea about tomatoes and peppers and that kind of junk!
