World Bonsai Convention 2005
Hi all,
Just a note to let you know about the website for the 5th World Bonsai Convention in 2005. The site is located at http://www.bonsai-wbff.org/wbc5/main.htm . Right now, only the dates, overview of the event, list of featured guests/speakers and contact information is available. More information will be added as it becomes available. This is an event hosted by the World Bonsai Friendship Federation every 4 years. In 2005, the North American member organization (North American Bonsai Federation) will host the event in Washington, D.C.. This event is special in that it is sponsored by ABS, BCI, NBF, Patomac Bonsai Association and the U.S. National Arboretum. Also, ABS and BCI will hold their annual meetings in conjunction with this event. Seems like a great example of the North American bonsai community coming together for a nice international cause. I hope that all here keep this event in mind and visit the site occasionally for updated information. Hope to see you all there in 2005! Kind regards, Andy Rutledge webmaster, WBFF/NABF www.bonsai-wbff.org |

I have already been saving my money for it. Being a student, I do not earn much money, so I start penny pinching early. My parents do not want to "waste their money" on it, so if I go, it will be alone. Hey, at least I will have my liscence then
. Hope to see everyone there! Nice job on the site Andy!

Charles: You might suggest to your parents that attending such an event will save you money in the long run because you come away from it with a better idea of what to buy for material, and you'll have a better idea how to keep it alive. I started out basically on my own, and the money I threw away over the span of a couple of years (hundreds of dollars, I've never added it up) could have been spent instead on several good workshops and I would have gotten a lot more for my money. Craig,
I am not sure if you have heard before, but I am studying under Jim Vanlandingham (I dont know if you know him, but he has been a long time student/emplyee of Jim Smith, the tropical expert). Weekly private lessons by Jim over the past year has greatly increased my knowledge of bonsai. My parents now realize that "I know what I am doing", and I cant get away with that excuse anymore. I also go to the Florida convention every year, so they think that is enough to spend on me (which is too much of them; conventions can be very pricy for 3 people). Between driving me to conventions, collecting trips, two clubs and a study group, I doubt that they want anymore to do with bonsai. So, I will probably be alone in trying to earn the money, as well as alone at the convention.
