Have some promising nursery stock on hand that I want to place in wooden growing boxs to promote root growth. Can I use pressure treated wood to construct these boxs??

Hi,
I would not take the chance. The regular stuff will last you for a few years. K.Beam

CCA lumber leaches cyanide into the soil and your hands. I recommend cedar or redwood, especially if you have some scraps left over after building a deck or fence. But you can use anything, even an old drawer from a dresser, if you put drainage holes in it. If you want an extremely shallow one, it's easy enough to build one from 1X material.
Pond baskets are becoming very popular as a way to promote fast growth and prevent too-large roots. It all depends on the size of the tree.

Oops Chris - close. CCA is copper chromate arsenate. No cyanide whatsoever. The CCA is a solution of copper, chromate and arsenic but relax, the treated lumber is no longer sold to the general public. Sales stopped in 2004. The latest trend in wood treatment is ACQ or (copper azole) or CuAz (or ammoniacal copper zinc arsenate). If you must use it the plant would be fine but as Chris points out any wood for the most part would do as long as it is not particle board or such. It should be solid wood or exterior laminated plywood (such as AC, BC or even CD/X grades). Used lumber is often cheap if not free. Save a board and find an old pallet or something and build it from that.
