Wiring A Silver Birch

well i decided to try wiring my silver birch today. It has a thin stem and wanted to put a bend in it to get some movement.
I put the wire on(copper, quite thick) and wired it up.then tried to bend it and it wouldnt saty where i wanted it.So i put another strand of wire on,following in the exact same place as the first layer, still wouldnt hold.I did manage to get a bit of a bend but not a lot. Looks like i neod either a clamp or to chop it to reduce the height and get a better proportioned tree.

Pic shows before wiring

Just a quick tip here.
You're wire is much too thin. A good way to gauge the size you need is the following
Copper wire: 1/3 the thickness of the branch or trunk you want to bend.
Aluminum wire : 1/2 the thickness of the branch or trunk you want to bend.
Not a final solution but a good place to start.

well, the wire is quite thick, its certainly stiff to bend!
Its the sort that the council use to rewire houses.

Another thought: house wire does not work unless you aneal (sp?) it first. IT won't hold. You have to heat it to red hot then let it cool. Much better to buy wire prepared for bonsai. Ron advice is right on...the wire you are using is much too thin. It should bend into place and stay there immediately. Good luck.
