Winter protection
Hi there, i live on vancouver island, BC, and am wondering what care, if any, is needed for trident maples and japanese hornbeams over the winter. Our winters here are around 2 to 5c during the day and 0 to -4c at night.
Thanks |

Both of those would be hardy trees in the ground in your climate, so you need only protect the roots from freezing during a prolonged cold spell. Because they are dormant they don't need light so the easiest thing is to monitor the temperature and bring them into an unheated basement or garage when it's below -2C.
