Wind

Wow, the last 3 days here, we've had unbelievable amounts of wind. I've heard bad stories about wind and bonsai, but my trees are having an unusual reaction:

They're thriving (with the exception of 1 accent plant! My junipers have gotten the usual 2 weeks worth of new growth in the last few days, and my ficus has sprouted 4 new leaves (which is a lot to me)! Even my birch seedlings seem to be enjoying it!

I'm fairly happy about this. And no, I haven't fertilized or added superthrive. I've heard from some people that their trees would turn brown when exposed to wind, but somehow it is having the opposite effect on my trees.

The only drawback is that with this wind, the soil dries out a ton faster, and I have to water once a day (compared to once every two to three days) with my bigger bonsai, and two to three times a day with the shohin.

My guess is wind 1. Blows clouds away giving good sun 2. Exposes the plant to more carbon dioxide 3. It’s just coincidental

Here is another thought. You say that your trees dry out faster now and you have to water more. Maybe you were watering too much before the wind started. Now the wind is helping you out a bit keeping things a bit on the dryer side.

It could be because I was watering too much. I really have no idea. I do know that every juniper I've seen likes dry conditions so that could be it.

Maybe it's just cause it's spring! The first growth spurt of spring is the fastest growth period for most trees.
