Hey Kevin and James-
When I signed up, I said I was in the KCMO area, but specifically in Roeland Park, KS. No local bonsai nurseries, and I had to get out of the business and back to selling new Hondas (O'Neill) to pay the bills. I still have some "stuff" but not so much. Started buying more advanced stock a couple of years ago. I am looking to "thin the herd" if you guys are interested. Also, I have always been happy with Brussel's Bonsai Nursery and New England Bonsai, too. Chris |

Don't be afraid of your neighbor
I have been wanting to try a willow bonsai for a while. My sister's next door neighbor has a beautiful full-sized weaper in his yard, though I rarely get into that area. Recently, I passed a property on my way to work and saw a sign that read "Willow Gardens". This is not a business, they just liked willows or something. So I turned around and low n behold, hiding in the back, a large willow I could only see travelling in the other direction, lol. I pulled into the driveway, knocked, and a pretty lady comes to the door.
"Are you the owner of this property" I asked. "Yes I am." She says... So I said to her "I notice you have that beautiful willow in your yard. I am a bonsai practitioner. WOuld it be OK if I took a few cuttings frmo your tree to use for bonsai?" She started to look a bit scared and said "Well, how much do you want to take?" I smiled and held my hands about 2' apart... "A few pieces about this big". She smiled and said "Oh, ya, no problem, go ahead." So tomorrow, I gotta remember to bring my cutters with me on the way out so I can collect on my way home. Yippy! ![]() This was my first try with this, but I have seen a few wonderful Japanes maples around here and maybe I get my suave technique down and get someone to let me air-layer on their tree. ![]() |

Has anyone had any experience with "Lotus Bonsai Nursery"? They have a few things I'm thinking about buying, any feedback from you folks?
Thanks, Buntaro |

Does anyone have a source for Kinsai or Ko Kinsai trees? I am looking for nursery stock (for cuttings) not finished bonsai.
I purchased one from a company who sells on ebay, but when it arrived it was not a kinsai. Live and learn huh? |

Growing...
|
I don't have any bonsai nurseries here so i grow my trees from cuttings and by airlayering. My trees "must" have good nebari if I am going to be satisfied with them, so I don't have much nursery material. Most of my "trees" are still 0-3 year old cuttings. I like to develop my practical bonsai skills step by step as those cuttings get older...

For those in the San Francisco Bay Area, Brian George runs a 2 acre nursery on Gage Lane, off of Indian Valley Rd. in Novato. It's a part time business for him, so he's only open on weekends. It's not specifically a bonsai nursery, but he has the best selection of Japanese maple varieties I've seen. Also Seiju elms, lots of differrent oaks, trident maples, montpelier maples, cotoneaster, Hinko cypress, Pseudolarix, hornbeam, and a bunch of stuff I can't recall at the moment. It's somewhat disorganized, with stuff hiding in corners all over the place. All prices are negotiated, not marked, but I've never paid more than I thought fair, often far less. I go there for recreation many weekend, even when I'm not buying.

Should have said, I'm not the Brian in Brian George Nursery. He is a friend by now, though.

I am laughing , since My last trees have come from Ron Martin, although I have a beautiful Brazilian Rain Tree and a Bougainvillea I obtainwed from the late Jim Moody.
My collection has come to a complete halt, since I have to see how much room my new Tree House stands will take. I will let you all know, as I will take pictures and when the fall comes and I move my trees back in doors....I will give you a complete series of the changes.
