Where to buy unmolested trees?

I am looking to get an indoor tree. Maybe a ficus, maybe a chinese elm, not quite sure yet. But where can I get a tree that is not in a formal pot, with glued rocks and molested tot he degree where every tree has an S-Shaped trunk, or all bent like crazy? I just want a young tree, to put into a pot to grow and for me to train, not one that has been trained? I've gone to Lowe's looking for trees, no good. There's no home depot around my school but I plan to go to the one back home next week. Any other ideas like nurseries or stores online where I can order a young, unmolested, and somewhat cheap tree?

For ficus, just find a friend or relative with a good sized one in their home
and ask to take a cutting. They root readily in water, even a thick branch.

Just to satisfy a confused depotless fool, can someone explain what a home depot is?

Try here - http://www.meehansminiatures.com/ or here - http://www.nebonsai.com/

Home Depot = big box store sell anvils to zinc plated nails, lighting, lumber, washing machines - Walmart for men.

I thought it was like some council (county) refuse centre for discarded plants the way people have been mentioning them of late. OK back on topic... sorry.

Hi Chris. You might want to try www.rareplants.com. They have lots of dirrerent plants, even different ficus. If you want a ficus, I might suggest "benjamina too little", or some variety with small leaves, or one of my favorites, the willow leaf ficus. Good luck. Larry

If you can get to New Jersey go to Allshapes Bonsai Nursery. They have a good selection of tropicals that work well for bonsai in all states of development.

Another place that is closer to State College is Nature's Way north of Hershey. They don't have as much in tropicals so you may wish to call first. However it is a very nice nursery and well worth the trip.

If you're from State College and you haven't been to natures way you're missing out. Jim is a very helpful guy who runs the place and there's lots of nice trees to check out. Its about an hour and a half from SC. Do the drive some nice day, check out the greenhouses and plan on spending some time there. You'll definitely enjoy yourself. Don't be afraid to ask any questions, Jim is always happy to help.
