When's The Best Time To Air-layer A Japanese Maple?

well i've got two red jap maples in front of my house and i was planning on air-layering each of them. when would be the best time to do it?

also is there anything special i should do when i do air-layer japanese maple? or should i just do it as normal (like i've read on bonsai primer and other sites...)

also i live in buffalo, ny so i don't know what effect the weather will have on when i should air-layer...

thanks for the help...

I think you'll find a suggestion regarding your airlayer - and a few other suggestions - in the following archieved thread.

dedFROGZ, first welcome. Next it is a bit late to do a layer on a tree in Buffalo, NY. You can gather your info, check your positions and do it next year, sometime after the trees leaves are in and harden off. Most deciduous trees need 2-3 months to do a layer... this would bring you to the month of November.... not a good time to seperate a layer in Buffalo.

You may want to think about altering your 'user cp' profile so as to get the info of where you are etc to show each time you post.

Also the weather... your geographic location and the type of tree DO MATTER in mostly all questions

Jay

NOTE____ my post crossed with OMC's.. his suggestion to check the link to another thread is excellent.
