I must disagree strongly with the above quote. Bunjin is the most difficult style to do properly.

Quite a few years ago I attended the GSBF convention in San Diego. The great Japanese master Kunio Kobayashi was the guest artist. During a demonstration, he was taking questions from the audience through an interpreter. He was asked what style bonsai was his favorite. After some thought he replied, and I'm quoting him as nearly as possible:

"Bunjin. But it's the most difficult to get right".

Don't kid youselves folks. You will never take some junky tree that is not fit to be a decent bonsai, and make bunjin.

It takes something special to be bunjin.

Mike

Thumbs up

I think the word decent is the key here. If we get a little frustrated with styling a tree, before we know it we can pass the point of no return. The only style left to conform to is the style that has no recognized standards..bunjin. But it might not be a decent bunjin.

This may be heresy, but I liked the original tree because it was recognisably a tree. The revised version is undoubtably artistic and carefully executed but somehow I feel it doesn't work as well. Sorry TJ just personal opinion. BTW if you ever decide to sell it pm me.
