Two points: I am not sure that I would even consider grafting as an option on this tree, I think it is not going to be necessary. Point two; you could pull down a branch and make a semi-cascade if you want a tree that looks like some body pulled down a branch and made a semi-cascade out of the tree. Sometimes wanting it now can give you a future in a tree headed for the club auction or the ignore pile as the grower's skills and eye for art advance beyond a hasty decision. The fact remains that there is the potential for a really great bonsai if patience is exercised and pruning is done carefully. To settle for something less is almost a crime.

There you go. I have much to learn before I do anything to this tree. Well stated, Vance. Thanks.

There are two categories of advice on the internet:

Bad Internet Advice
Good Internet Advice

This one stretches to a third category:
Bonsai Gospel Internet Advice

Remember this for the rest of your days. You absolutely will improve in your bonsai skills if you live by this philosophy.

Thank you Chris. We have not always seen eye to eye and I consider this a hard won compliment and an honest assessment.
