Anything that does not release harmful chemicals and seals the cut is good. Cut Paste (whether Japanese or Chinese) is affordable and proven, I guess that's why it is used so frequently, but whatever functions to achieve the same purpose will do.

The assumption is, that if it's bonsai related and comes from Japan, then it must be the best.
"it ain't necessarialy so"

Fight? Who`s fighting?
Just wondering why botter to import something from Japan if its not significantly better than domestic products. I think mike_p is right and that there are many bonsai myths and dogmas.

All I can say, is that I see the guys in Bonsai Today use the stuff, and I see their trees.

That's enough to get me to spend a few extra $$$ --- and a tub of the stuff goes a long, long way, so it's not that terribly expensive really.

Does it work? There are about a million threads in this forum alone with all the back and forth. But I'm convinced.

Now Superthrive, on the other hand ...

I have used a technique that I learned from a man who has created some beautiful trees over the last 25 years. You simply place wet paper towel over the wound and allow it to dry. I works great for most deciduous trees not so good for pines however.

How does the wet paper towel help? Doesn't seal in moisture, since it dries out. Do you have any photos of this technique in use?
