I cannot answer the question, since I enjoy so many aspects!

But the symbiotic realtionship with another living being is one of the greatest parts, IMHO.

My favorite part fits under the option "Finding the best martial for bonsai" it like walking all over the countryside looking for trees to collect. A more precise option for me would be "Collecting" ;-).

although i voted finding the best material, the yamadoria hunt would be up with the best-the endless mountain searches in all kind off weather, long journeys, tired arms and legs, the fruits off your labour, the disappointments off finding nothing, the thril off finding "the one tree",and the long struggle for survival after the collection.yep cant beat it.

I had to go with the initial styling thing. Had teaching bonsai been on that list it would have gotten my vote.
Lately I seem to get more satisfaction showing others do to do it than I get when I actually take scissors in hand.

I have to say, the process as a whole, and some parts of the pocess more than others. I love repotting, especially when I've found a new pot for the tree that I think will be an improvement.
The epitome of the process has to be setting up a bonsai show and watching it come together as an artistic success.

gazing at the bare branch work in winter.

Yes! This is what I love the most. My bonsai take me through the seasons, keeping my eyes and heart open to weekly if not daily changes in the world around me. Every season brings one or many things to look forward to with my trees.

It is not just the bonsai itself. The very process of root pruning is a re-vigoration of self.

Sort of a re-newal yearly. Oh I wonder if the persons who take my early spring classes understand that bonsai is on it's own time table. I 'm not able to put off a repotting because I'm busy with business. Ok. the plant says" hey I'm comin' out taday pal!"...and if I'm not there to root prune, well..I've missed it.

In the meantime it is cold, rainy, and such. Not your 'sit at home by the fire' sort of stuff.

What esle is not sit at home? Oh, I have not been collecting in time but have the majoriety of my collection that way. Sure I've not scaled mountains (for bonsai but for the adventure) in search of potensai, but the cold, the damp, the scrapes, bruises, cut fingers, bent car bumpers all that stuff is totally there. (if you know what I mean).

Bonsai has become a life style. You have to live it to understand it.
