I should imagine that there is regulation regarding the import of trees from outside of Costa Rica, like there are in virtually all countries.

You may require a license or permitted to import only certain species. I did a quick look around on the net and found this ...

IPPC

There are articles there in English and Spanish and should answer your question. Failing that, you could contact your local government department concerned with the importing of foreign flora and fauna.

Hope the above proves useful

Regards,

Aaron

At one time I imported trees. Did so for many years.
My best advise in don't do it. Not worth the hassle. And better trees can be had here. Usually a bit cheaper

Ron,

Just out of curiousity, what kind of first-hand experience do you have importing bonsai INTO Costa Rica?

Seems like an interesting concept,

Will

I don't think the road is bad at all Ron, in fact I'm enjoying the ride, if you don't mind?

This was the original question, jorgitocr was asking for advice on importing trees into Costa Rica from the US.

This was your reply, advising him not to do it and then saying the trees are better and cheaper here in the US? I think that may just be why he wants to import them in the first place, Ron.

Way out in left field, so much so that I asked "Just out of curiosity, what kind of first-hand experience do you have importing bonsai INTO Costa Rica?" To which you gave the typical Ron-ism "Just a bit old man Why"

Now to cut to the chase, so to speak, as to not turn this into another drawn out post trying to get you to elaborate just once. I am interested in this subject and I would very much like you to share your first hand knowledge of importing trees INTO Costa Rica with me. I of course will understand if you choose not to. And maybe with your experience you could answer the question originally asked?

..what kind of trees can i bring from the US to Costa Rica, and how long will it take to get here..?

I have no first hand experience importing or exporting to or from Costa Rica but my searches did turn up a link that you might find useful here.

An interesting quote from there... "This quarantine permit allows you to take your plant with you wherever you go in Costa Rica." No excuses to leave your bonsai at home now.

Good luck,

Will Heath

Interesting side note here

I just received a neutral rep point (meant to be negative I'm sure) on the above post I just made. The Comment said..."don't post advise (sic) if you have no firsthand knowledge -Will Heath"

First, thank you for quoting me, although I seldom misspell advice.

Second, I did not post advice, in fact, I stated that I had no first hand experience importing or exporting to or from Costa Rica and only posted a link to the info he was looking for. Pretty easy to understand.

Third, lmao.

Will
