What if you had to move?

With the possiblity of moving, I'm curious what others would do in my place, hence the poll.

At this point in time, I chose "would be a consideration." I currently only have 15
trees, and I'm pretty certain I could accomodate them fairly easily.

Same boat for me...

I'm sorta in the same boat, pill man. I'm planning to move in the next month or so, and while it would be great to be able to choose a location that would be ideal for bonsai, the reality is that there are too many other factors, including timing and price. On the upside, I need a fenced-in yard for my dog anyway, so I should have some kind of an area where I'll be able to keep the trees.

Luckily I already had the desire for a big yard even before I discovered Bonsai. I knew I wanted space to do some kind of garden work or landscaping. We have been in our new home for a little over a year now, and I've built a small growing area for my trees.

For me it was a big part of my decision. I also have a dog and so needed room and a fence for her. I also wanted something with a shed to use for a studio.

We moved during the Thanksgiving holiday.

My husband suspected that the back yard amenities were pretty important, and got a little frustrated with me over a couple of houses that we passed up because of the bad sunlight, poor drainage, or lack of shed...

But we are in a great place now...

Personally I would consider sun exposure as well as size. I say this because my house lot has large trees on the north, east and west sides and the house faces west, therefore the only place my trees can get sufficient light is on the south side which is the garage side of my house. Good exposure but I only have a 60x100 ft lot so my trees are squeezed into an area that is about 10 x 30 feet due to the shade from all of the large trees surrounding me.

I have to have an area where I can moderate sun exposure to some extent. Summer here is very intense, so some trees cannot cope with full sun exposure for more than a couple of hours.

Judicious use of space, and benches that can be easily reconfigured mean that trees can be quartered in a number of differing configurations.

The renovations we did this year mean I can put valuable trees up on a deck, well above ground level, with no access to the ground.

For me it would be such a major problem that I plan on never moving again.

I sold my business, moved all the way across the country and took a new job just to be in a place where I could spend more time working on and learning about bonsai.
