I use a reverse osmosis filter for my trees, and myself. It's really not expensive at all. Our tapwater is really bad - I had it tested and it is not fit for man nor beast. A lot of salts and other nasty things. I am considering collecting rainwater this year for convenience, however, for the hot months.

Wow, I watched Erin Brocovich last night !!
So now we need to know exactly where in the world you live !

If you can go to your User CP, (upper left of the screen) it takes you to a profile area, where you can give some general details of location, climate etc... and even tell us a little about yourself.

Regards,
Ian.

I just use water straight from the tap without any ill effects.

On the whole though, if its safe enough to drink.... its safe enough for your trees.

All the best,

Aaron[/QUOTE]Same here, our drinking water is as good as the water you can buy!

I live close to the Mississippi River (the source of my water) downstream from Minnneapolis/St. Paul. My tap water tested out at 480 ppm as opposed to the 200 ppm my municipality had claimed. Why did I test it ? It tasted terrible, my houseplants quickly took a turn for the worse after I used it on them, it built up a layer of sediment on pots and coffee makers more quickly than I had ever seen, and my dogs didn't like to drink it. The water has really high levels of sodium and magnesium in particular, which are not good for plants. My bonsai must be a little slower to show ill effects, but my first year here I had several fatalities, perhaps coincidental. I must say without a doubt, though, that fine oolong tastes much better with filtered water !

Ah, Dtree, so does Darjeeling! Margaret's Hope Estate Second Flush.

It would be wasted on bad water.

If you use your water for cooking and/or if your cat drinks it you can use it for bonsai. Everything else is a waste of time and money.

I said other but I really just use tap water,...we are on a well. So I wasn't really sure if you meant city tap water or any tap water. Right now though it's pretty much just all rain water, as it's staying fairly wet here all the time.

I've lived in places where the water turns your hair stiff, if you wash with it. In those cases it is necesary to protect your trees from the dissolved minerals in the water. Cats are a good indicator. They are the canaries of water quality
