Water filter

I'm working more with maples and thought I would try a water filter just for kicks to see if it helps. I've never used one before but would like try it. It may be a waste of money but I'm willing to try anyway. I would like to get a little input on types and where to find a good filter that would work with a regular faucet/hose set up. ($150.00 max) Mostly trying to limit salt build up and all the nastiness that lead to leaf burn. I'll need to do a little work on PH also but that's another post. Not looking for opinions on using a filter, just which filter would do the best job for maples.

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Tim,

You might want to test your water to determine what you may need.

I have found this site to have a lot of information and good assortment of products. I have purchased several things from them.

Hi Tim,

The US radio station I frequently listen to is always playing adverts for the Berkey Water filters and the KDF shower filter. The shower filter is only $49 and I'm sure with some basic plumbing fittings you could attach it to a garden hose with little problem. Its also good for 10'000 gallons and removes 95% of chlorine, heavy metals and some of the other crap that's put in our water supplies.

Here's the link.

All the best,

Aaron

Water test shows a PH of 7.9 Can't correct with filter. May be the main issue? I'll work on that separately.

Chlorine is not an issue. Just need to remove the other things I don't know about?

Forever learning maples? At least maples are helping me overcome my pine addiction.

If memory serves me correct, there are around 600+ chemicals found in drinking water. Some are added by the water companies such as Chlorine and Flouride. Some chemicals are also absorbed from old pipework. On a side note, I was quite alarmed to discover on my travels that the same Flouride compound used in our drinking water is the same stuff used by the Nazis on the Jews during WW2 as a mind suppressant

I've watered my maples with tapwater, with no ill effects. Since I got a water butt last year (and no that doesn't mean I've got cellulite on my backside :p) I prefer to water my trees with rainwater as much as possible. The only noticeable benefits seem to be that my pots don't get anywhere the amount of limescale/salt deposits as they did before. Whether there are unseen benefits, I couldn't really say. I would hazard a guess that the Chlorine in the water doesn't go down to well with natural bacteria found in the soil. I haven't noticed a huge improvement in growth, but I do prefer to use water from the sky than the hose.

All the best,

Aaron
