War Wounds And Battle Scars

On a thread in show and tell there is some wire bite marks that look awefully offending.

I am sure there are others out their that have similar or worse mishap pictures.

1. Wire left on?
2. Broken branches
3. infestestations outta control?
4 Dog running around with it in his mouth
5 Missing fingers or toes? (Capt Jack R.i.p. is d/q cause he was mowing the lawn)
6 Dropped entire shelve of pots
etc
etc

Any thing you can think of that was a blooper classic of destroying your collection.

I have several some with pictures some with not. I will begin with the spring of 2003 when over 60 percent of my trees were debudded and pruned by 3 sheep that jumped the fences.

A foster dog that was locked in a mudroom where I keep my indoor trops up high on a south facing window shelf was pulled down. One buttowwood and one Ficus were uprooted and both pots smashed to pieces. Both trees survived however. The St Bernard doing the damage found a home three days later.

My better half was in a pottery shop looking at the earthware (fired once) and admiring how many shapes they were in. She bumped the shelf and literally hundreds of pots came crashing to the floor (three shelfs full).

fun.

Lets here more mishaps

Paul

no,...............it's crazy...........and that doesn't count the strays that have shown up and been fed....you know, the ones they won't admit to have named.......trees knocked over, larger pots used as litter boxes(one disadvantage of using turface as a soil ).

but they let me have my trees ........and i let them have their cats

i dont think i could cope with more than 2 cats, i just dont like em as much as dogs, because dogs are much more obediant, and they dont go off killing birds.

A friend of mine just moved into a new house that had an overhead watering system installed under the patio where he had placed all his bonsai so he decided to give it a try on a hot day not realizing that the pipes would be full of boiling water when turned on ( ouch!)
Sure enough it scalded a number of his plants and killed some of the smaller ones outright

A terrible windstorm last fall decimated my meager bonsai collection- broken pots broken trees, etc. I also have been the victim of cat inflicted bon-cide. There are at least three cats that I know of that hang around here and like to terrorize my trees!!

There must be few other hobbies that require so much patience, so much devotion, so much time, only to be thwarted again and again by mother nature or some other unfortunate accident!

The road to a beutiful bonsai is a long and winding one indeed.

One warm sunny day, I had just put a few of my small trees out on my deck for some brighter light (it was almost spring). We went shopping, and when we returned as we neared home, there on the pavement a block away was one of my trees, out of the pot. I picked it up put it in our kitchen sink and soaked it for an hour.... It survived. The pot didn't.

We never did find out the who the villain was..my guess some kid just decided to play a prank! .
