Howdy, all.
Our own Mr. Walter Pall will be doing a demo at the Descanso Bonsai Society club meeting on February 15, 2005. The club meets at the Descanso Gardens in La Canada (near Glendale/Pasadena). Meeting starts at 7:00. His demo tree will be in the raffle at the end, so you'll have a chance to take the tree home. Please come join us, and be sure to say hi. I'm the newsletter editor for the club.

Directions to the meeting

.....KUDOS for Descanso Bonsai.

For your further information, Walter will also be coming to Northern California too.......The Golden State Bonsai Federation, Collection - North will present its fourteenth Annual Mammoth Fundraiser Event at Lakeside Garden Center, 666 Bellevue Avenue, Oakland, CA.
On Saturday, February 26th there will be an Auction of fine Bonsai from 1-4PM, with a preview from Noon to 1PM.

Then, on Sunday, February 27th there will be a Mammoth Sale many vendors, many consignment bonsai and pre-bonsai etc. There will also be

ONGOING DEMONSTRATIONS BY KATHY SHANER AND WALTER PALL

from 11AM through 4PM......with the demo trees being raffled off along with many other trees in the raffle.

This is the primary annual fundraiser for the Collection - North, and, in my opinion, the biggest bonsai event of the year in Northern California. It is also a fine opportunity to visit the Collection - North itself....which is nearby the Garden Center.
New at the Collection is a huge, masterful California Juniper which was collected in l993 by Ray Thieme and Richard Ramirez of Fresno from Jawbone Canyon in the Mojave Desert. They nurtured this wonderfull tree through the years and at the Fresno Convention two years ago the tree was styled by Harry Hirao, Mas Imazumi and other outstanding notables in the world of bonsai. (Walter Pall was at the Convention and saw the tree too).
Well, Ray and Richard continued to nurture the tree and then they recently donated it to the Collection - North where Curator, Kathy Shaner directed the transplanting from its huge wooden box into a super-large bonsai pot at the entrance to the Collection. It took about 15 bags of akadama, hyuga and brown lava to fill the pot. (the wonderful pot was donated to the collection by Mr William Lue of Royal Pacific). The pot is large enough in which a man or two could take bath.
So......what could be better than spending a weekend at the Mammoth Fundraiser, seeing Kathy and Walter before your very eyes, having fun, enlightenment and bonsai comraderie.
If you want to preview the Auction trees for Saturday you can click on to www.gsbf-bonsai.org........and you'll see pictures of the offered trees and their minimum bids.
If you want more information you may call John Castle art (510)521-4595.
Thank you, Descanso, for letting me "tag on" to your invitation. When Walter Pall comes around, it's newsworthy. He visited the Collection - North two years ago after the Convenion in Fresno, and, as I understand it, he was "blown away"......by these wonderful trees. You too come, and be "blown away".
