Use of horticultural oil on F. nerifolia
I have recently experienced a moderate scale infestation on one of my Ficus - a nerifolia to be specific - I know this cultivar exhibits toxicity regarding certain insectisides....Jerry M. recommends an oil spray in his book to control pests. Can anyone verify this through their experience with nerifolia in particular? Thanks!

Hi Tom,
I have a couple specimen willowleafs and they are prone to scales. one is just getting back into shape from a bout last winter. i use Volckoil spray, which you can find most anywere, after picking off whatever scale i can. the way oil sprays work is that they smoother the critters. But you may have to apply several applications to do the trick, depending on what part of the hatching/growing cycle they're in. good luck john |

Oil spray has always worked for me with no toxicity on figs. Keep us posted.
