Umbrella tree

Ok, forgive me for this, but I can't remember much about this site! manohman its been forever since I came on here, I am still interested in bonsai, but I haven't seen much around my area that was worth getting ecited about I guess. I just wanted to know how to take care of an umbrella tree, more to the point, where to pinch the leaves to get them to grow back smaller. I seem to be having a hard time finding information about this, and its not even in the books I had purchased. Any help would be appreciated!

If by "Umbrella Tree" you mean a Schefflera then you can remove all the leaves by cutting the leaf stems. But only do this in the warmer months. After removing the leaves put it where it will get 2 to 3 hours of morning sun, no more than that.
You will see it start to grow new leaves in about 4 to 6 weeks, sometimes less.
Keep it in this light until the leaves are fully grown. They should be smaller than the original.

Good luck,......Hector

Thumbs up

I have a Schefflera, and Repotter's advice is dead on. I would add that the plant must be in excellent health before you undertake this. Schefflera makes a great tree!

Good Luck!

THanks for the advice, I appreciate it. My tree is by no means ready for this, but I wanted to know in advance what to do once it was.
