Are we asking if one will come out better? more talented? have better trees? have a career in bonsai? I guess the definition of "rather equal" is important.
Maybe one would have more talent but one would have more fun...who is better off? I'm always thinking of person # 3--He loves bonsai, has read many bonsai books and studied bonsai resources on-line BUT has never been to a single bonsai class, bonsai event or bonsai show. Talented or otherwise bonsai is his passion. He never gets a chance to study anywhere with anyone and maybe never wants to. Is he ready to learn? Is he equal to the others? Could he be equal to the masters? Is it possible HE could be a master and neither he nor anyone else know it? Maybe in the end without all the extra weight of shows, teachers, masters, events, classes and critique HE is better off than person 1 or 2. |

Ron,
we are guilty of the sin called "small talk". According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary it means "light or casual conversation", syn.: Chitchat. In other words, no higher purpose. Some cultures see it as sinful, others call it socializing. It's up to the individual to decide if wants to be part of it or not. For some of us it's relevant to bonsai education, for others it's a complete waste of time. Both views are equally valid, if you ask me. Regards, Attila |

Quote "I know I shouldn't but I am dying to ask the big question. Is there a point that is trying to be made here. Does all this math, the two scenarios and neat fiction have a purpose. Is it in any way relevant to a bonsai education (or real life for that matter)
I seem to be missing the point somewhere. Help !!!" Ron, this is what happens to outdoor bonsai growers once the trees have been put in winter storage. Not much else to do except get nutty on the bonsai forums. Al is lucky, he's only got a couple of months of winter left. I've got around four months to go! Tony |

Experiment 1:
Drop Bonsai person Nr 1 and Nr 2 from a 10 story building at the same time. Result....they reach ground at the same time... But the real question? Which one bounces the highest? Wait...thats a golf ball and a softball. Paul
