Turntable & Stand
Here are a couple of pictures of a turntable and stand I made from some PVC, 1x4 lumber and a 16" pine round from a home improvement store. It stands about 40" high and is adjustable up to about 5 '. I made it because I got tired of stooping down to get on an eye level with the trees when working on a standard height bench.

Here it is in two pieces. The table is fastened on with a floor flange. The locking bolt is a 5/16" bolt with the head sawed off and glued into a wooden ball from a craft store. The main outer shaft is schedule 80 PVC and the bolt is threaded thru the PVC.
The inner shaft and table pivot on a 1/4" pin thru the inner shaft that rides on top of the outer shaft. About $20 worth of materials.

Nice design!
Did you find that the stand was binding on the flange? Is that why you added the thru-bolt? How easily does it spin? I have seen the flanges used as bearings on some of the wooden displays. These might be cool for display too. You could just sink the post in the yard... Regards, Matt

Actually the flange can't contact the main tube because there is a male fitting on the end of the inner tube which screws into the flange. The male fitting rests on the outer tube when the pin is removed.
I added the pin to be able to adjust the height and found that if I added two aluminum bushings (see photo) they act as a bearing and the table spins quite freely. The inner tube is drilled every two inches so I can adjust the height of the table.

Very nice design. I think you should moderate the next contest and make this the prize. I would love to play!
thanks, Bonsai-al

How about a material and instuction list? I would love to make one like that, it has a very nice design, and is way cheaper then those $500 sumo stands. If not, maybe you should sell them...
