Top,

I have an article almost completed that I will post soon.

This is not the only option out there but so far it has given me perfectly straight trunks after a chop with minimum after care. The biggest tip I have is to use a razor blade for the cut and to plan the wedge carefully so you do not have to bend the trunk back and forth.

Thanks for the inquiry. I am currently waiting for a few "healed" pics of this technique to compare with the normal way. Everything is doing quite well and as expected, the chops are straighter than we are used to. This is good for creating a new leader but of course we would use the normal method lower on a tree because we want movement there.

I will post a update here soon.

Hi Will...

I've seen this technique done on a trunk by David DeGroot in a demonstration .It sure does work as long as the material is flexible to some degree. Good luck with your efforts.

Best Always

Interesting!

I am sure I am the first to publish it (due to lots of research) but I always suspected someone had to have tried it before. When was this demo and do you think you can get followup pics?

Hi Will....

David did the demo for the Greater New Orleans Bonsai Society quite a few years ago using this trunk bending technique. This techique was also documented in the New Orleans Bonsai Society's newsletter during that same year. If you are really interested in "proof", I could contact David for you and ask him where he has this documented.

Best Always
