trunk chop question

i have a willow leaf ficus that i am interested in either trunk chopping or air layering. i have only air layered one tree in my time, and though successful, it was too long ago to remember how and when. so, if i were to do either of these, when would be best? (the tree is kept indoors)

Hi Chris,

If the tree above your proposed chop is interesting, it would be a shame to throw it away. Airlayer is easy. Although I havent done it with ficus I'm told they are easier than most. Here is a link that shows airlayering on ficus.

Good luck.

Chris,
Either will work but an airlayer, in my hands, is a bit more successful than a cutting.
Good luck and keep us posted.
