Trop/Sub Trop Lighting Requirements

Hi -

I would have posted below in the Indoor bonsai forum, but I am not sure folks go in there as often as here. If I have violated protocol, please forgive me .

I was hoping someone could recommend a reliable source that will break out common trop and sub trop bonsai species and their lighting requirements (preferably measured in footcandles, as this is what my light meter can measure). I know I have seen something like this somewhere, but I can seem to trace my steps back to it.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Tom.

I have no idea what my trees require in foot-candles, or any other measure. I have no quantitative measure.

I do know that, qualitatively, my tropicals respond very well to flourescent shoplights, anywhere between 4" to 10" away from the top of the tree.

fwiw,
pootsie

Thanks, Pootsie. I had something like this in the past but, now that I sprung for a light meter, I am having trouble finding it. Time to break out the old bonsai books and try to find it...

BTW, any idea on how to convert lumens to footcandles...

Tom,

From what I can tell from that site though lumens to footcandles is equal....
1 lumen = 1 footcandle from what the table reads.
