Red Leaf Trident Maple? Desert Rose?

Does anyone know how to germinate and grow Trident Maple seeds?? I tried soaking them but no good.
Also, how do i get a desert rose to stay short and stocky as well as branch out

If tridents are anything like red, silver, and sugar maple seeds, they will benefit from a period of cold stratification before planting. The way I do it is to mix the ripe seeds with some moist peat moss (NOT too wet!), and place it in my refrigerator for a few months. I check them about once a week to make sure they are not molding, and I flip the bag over at the same time. When the seeds start sprouting, I take them out of the fridge and plant them outside in a partially shaded area.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
John

I have cold stratified seeds after twenty four hour soak and get about 10-20% germination these were hand collected seeds, same as for A. campestre. I prefer hardwood cuttings with, hormone and plastic covers, several weeks before bud burst and get about 80 -90% strike rate, use one year old wood, the thicker, the better chance of success, ( when I repot and want to hold a root in place I often use a trident stem that I've just cut and use it as stake to hold the root in position, even these have rooted).

If you have a plant with good characteristics then you must use cuttings to gaurantee preservation of those characteristics.

Cheers

Paul
