You must understand nothing is worth the cost on ebay unless you get really really lucky. Although at its current price this tree seems pretty reasonable.

the "story" is probably correct and it is also worth the price, and more, if it is as good in real life as the picture suggests. The nebari/ rootflair, if real, is magnificent for a corkbark

it doesn't have a cork bark root base it has a grafted black pine root. i don't think it's worth 900 when you consider you can buy something from walter for a little more.

Absolutely, I think it is. This is a really fine corkbark black pine. Most every corkbark black pine you will encounter is grafted, as that is the most common method of propagation. They are weak on their own roots.

In addition - this statement:

"this is one of the only corkbark Japanese Black Pines I've ever seen without reverse taper - it has a wonderful rootbase and trunk taper."

Is absolutely true. This is an excellent specimen. When I looked again for more information I recognized the name of the seller, who is a frequent visitor to this forum.

Regards,

Matt

It might be worth 900 to someone who knows that it is hard to come up with a tree like that. But you have to ask yourself some questions.
"Where can I take this tree artistically?"
"Am I paying this much because it actually looks good?"
Ok, Ok,
I just couldn't see my self paying any money for this tree because I don't think it looks good.

I wouldn't buy it either, but that's because:
A) I don't have $900
B)i'm such a novice i would definitely kill it, and then my husband would kill me
