Tree ID needed...
Hi all -
I picked this tree up last year from a bonsai grower in the area. It was labeled "Bird of Paradise" but, what's that?!?!? Anyway, I thought it was kind of odd, so I brought it home. I have a weakness for odd .Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

Yes. It flowered under lights this winter. If I remember correctly, they started out as little ball, then puffed out - similar to buttonwood, I think. It does resemble the pic on the URL you provided. What is the common name, and what are the care instructions? Thanks!

Fern of the Desert (Lysiloma thornberi)
I believe this is what it is - Fern of the Desert (Lysiloma thornberi). I don't think it is mimosa (the leave just don't look the same, and the flowers look more like what is being shown for Lysiloma).
So, for you Lysiloma-owners, do you keep it in a sunny spot? On the dry or moist side? I found this pic on the internet - looks a bit like mine. Except for my knobby trunk. Anyone else's have all those 'warts' on it? That normal? Thanks again for all the help figuring this one out.

I'm butting in here to tell you that you have to remove those terrible weeds which have infested your pot. I used to think they looked sweet - like tiny clumps of grass - but they are water-sucking parasites and are the kiss-of-death in small bonsai pots. Repot without disturbing the roots.
BTW I'm glad this thread started because I've grown something VERY similar from seed this year, from seeds I collected two years ago on vacation/holiuday (sadly I can't remember what the parent looked like).
