Tree ID Help

I have recently been informed that I had this tree ID'ed wrong, my mistake. (Thanks Carl) I am hoping that with the combined knowledge on this forum to get a positive ID.

I collected a few of these growing in the understory of some old woods where a lot of willows also grow. It has a vine like nature, meaning it has very long internodes and often lays it's long slender trunk on the ground. It also forms bushes about 3-4 foot high in places. The leaves are scanned below. As you can see, the leaves are very small with a maple like form.

Thanks,

Will

If I had to say, I'd venture that this was red maple. It doesn't quite look right to me though. Maybe this will help in your search.

There is a maple called the "Sharp's pigmy" that has leaves that small. But living in the south means that I am not a big maple guy. Could be wrong but but it might be a place to start.
