Easier way to secure the trees!
Use Plastic Mesh (like what we use for the drainage covers) Take your pot and the Mesh and figure out how much mesh you need to cover the pot. Cut out your Mesh to fit the pot Lay down your Drainage Layer and place the mesh you just cut out inside. Secure your mesh using the drainage holes. Place your trees and secure in place. Lay down your soil. Water thoroughly as needed. I saw this in "Bonsai Landscapes", The author also later describes how to Create your own Rocks. I cant remember the author and a friend has that book at the moment... |

I'm so happy for you and your group G, that you got to have someone like Ron come out and play...
![]() Now all I need to do is actually join a club so I can tell them how awesome Ron is, and then lure Ron west of the Rockies... ![]() With all the help Ron has given me in the time I have known him, I can only imagine what fun your group must of had under his teaching. And as an aside... I'd say pretty much same about Repotter but you can't get that man out of Michigan... ![]() Ron.... I know you said you havn't been to the west coast to teach yet... I would so love to make that happen... and if someone else beats me to it, you darn good and well know you'd best tell me so I can come...lol Now what I would love to do is go to Ron's 6 week class for beginner bonsai.... that suprised me to hear.... a 6 week class.... very very cool... Your friend in all things, |

Wow. Thanks Grampz I need all the good words I can get.
But you do know that I had more fun than anyone else that was there. I got to play with trees and it cost me nothing. I even got one of those Texas hamburgers for free Victrinia, what can I say. Guess I’ll have to hire you as my publicity agent ;o) |

I know this is an old thread, but I just found it
![]() Ron, I have a question about the wiring-do you just cut it off when it starts to bite into the trunks? Be hard to tell if they were rooted if theyre all hooked together without untying them... Looks like a great idea! I didn't do any securing on a small forest of cuttings I did, and nowthe trees are leaning everywhere... (oops).. So guess what I'll try next time? ![]() |

So far I haven't had the wire on long enough for it to cut in. A couple of month is all it takes for the root system to grow enough to lock everything in place. Longer than that and you normally have a problem with how the forest was planted. By this I mean poor packing during potting and leaving voids in the soil |
