Re: Sympathy for the Captain...
Hi all,
As you may see, even a thread like this can lead into an interesting discussion, even though it's not about bonsai at all. I must agree with Jose; we do need to encourage people to create. It is also very important that we don't judge the others just by their writing as many of us (including myself) are not from an english-speaking country and it may cause some problems that make a post sound rude or something like that. Ofcourse, it also causes problems in forming proper sentances, just like in the last one in this post... Jay's right in that everybody must try to be able to accept criticism concerning their trees, too. It's not too helpful, if everybody posts comments like "WOW, what a nice tree! Hope it was mine." I must confess I've done this too, but I try to lose this "bad habit". Old Mister has always been nice to everyone and he's got the gift of giving some contructive criticism without hurting the other one. It's nice to read his delicately putten words in his posts. This, and the fact he knows a lot about bonsai, makes him one of my favorites in the forum. Zeb

Re: Sympathy for the Captain...
Maybe Jack deserves some of the grief- I don't catch all the posts here... I think people need to re-read their posts to see if their criticisms are constructive and add someting to the discussion...
I do think advice should be something one is familiar with, esp. horticultural - Crow, I hope you discover your advice is bad after you post it? ;^) Wrong information should be corrected- and also not all answers are equally correct. For example- anyone else see Bonsai Today when they were starting out and at the first sign of root rot, bare root a tree, wash the roots and transplant into coarse sand? Some answers should come with caveats, like the above procedure, yet we see answers like this thrown out all the time. Even design advice can and should be backed up with something stronger than an opinion. There usually is an artistic reason as to why something looks better. There is great potential for productive discussion in this area... Like Jim Lewis says on the other Forum- hit THINK before you hit SEND...

Re: Sympathy for the Captain...
Might be nice to hear Capt. Jacks take on all this. I don't know about Jack, but I don't need a mouthpiece for me.
