Storm Preparation, Hurricane Charlie

What a nice surprise to wake up to this morning...... Last night they said the storm would go slightly east of us, putting us on the milder side of the storm. This morning, they said it has shifed slightly and was heading straight for us now and will be nearly a catagory 3 when it gets here. Of course, it could shift again before tomorrow but you can't put off preparations until the last minute. I just moved nearly one hundred bonsai and pre bonsai from the shelves in the back yard into my studio.....oh my aching back!

But everything is up off the floor in case of storm surge from the Gulf of Mexico. I am more worried about the 110 mile an hour wind they are predictiing. Hopefully we will get good news about a direction shift, but if not, my husband and I and the dog are ready to bug out of here tomorrow........ a prayer or two would be much appreciated. Hope to be back soon.

Yup, I here ya. I live in Lakeland. I hate moving my trees, but it is well worth it to avoid those winds. My wife and I are leaving tonight to go to Orlando. I'll keep your family in my prayers.

Consider you and your family in my prayers! Same goes for you Ryan, and any other bonsaiTALK friends that are in harms way!

It looks like my area may miss this hurricane. I had not heard that they were predicting it to be a level three. I thought it was expected to be a level two. Whatever size it is predicted to be, I am just thankful that it will be nothing like Hurricane Andrew.

Keeping you in my thoughts.

Also, best wishes on the overlooked tropical storm that should be hitting you at this time. Tropical storms usually do not do too much damage, but this kind of weather can cause a lot of flooding.

Hey folks, just wanted you in the path of the storms to know you are in my thoughts, and I hope all goes well for you. I'm a transplant from Pensacola, and Guam, and am now living in Ohio. I know the storms that you all get very well, and I have to say that while I do miss the weather that allows all year outdoor bonsai with little trouble, I do not miss those storms. Here in Ohio we have snowstorms to contend with all winter, but they are easier to protect against than what you're going through.

Best wishes!

Hey Ryan. I trust you are still safe. I am a former Auburndale fella. I still have relatives there. Now I live in South Georgia and just last night had a huge pine limb to fall on my house and my truck. No major damage tho. I am blessed! Will keep all you guys im my thoughts.

Our good luck was someone else's bad luck. I feel guilty being relieved that the storm missed us...... Thursday night and Friday morning, we were looking around the house asking ourselves, "what can we save?" I had yanked everything out of drawers and piled it up on the bed, extensive book collection in garbage bags in case the water got in, stuff stuck in the dishwasher, and so on..... I still haven't gotten everything put back yet but not complaining. Will try to get the trees back outside tomorrow. It stormed all day today, but this is the front that turned the hurricane away so there again....not complaining.

I hope other members in the path of this storm came through ok.
Thanks to all for good wishes and prayers.
Sign me just glad to be here.

timeless,
Thank you for your concern. I am fine. Funny thing though, my wife and I left Lakeland to avoid the hurricane. We went to my parents home in Orlando, thinking we would miss the intensity of the hurricane, and it went right through the town my parents live in. Every one is safe, but lots of damage. Thousands of dollars worth infact. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers, I'm sure they kept us safe.
---Ryan

P.S.--Let's hope the next two storms systems that are on their way don't amount to what we saw last night.
