I have had 10-12 bonsai trees on my ground level balcony at a high-traffic complex for 5 years without a theft. I think the majority of thieves are after electronics, art, and cash.

While I'm sure there are people out there that know a lot about bonsai and would put a shiv in your ribs without thinking about it - I have as yet to encounter any....

Not really a bonsai, but I had someone steal a laceleaf "Crimson Queen" japanese maple from my front yard while i was on vacation this summer. It was very upsetting. Havent recovered it, but I look in yards everytime i go somewhere.

lost a few a couple years back on devils night, someone thought they were pumkins and smashed them on the ground. I was out of town for the weekend and came back to dry roots. since then I have a new privacy fence and display area as well as motion lights.

sometimes you just have to shake your head and wonder....

Maybe we should have a poll on what sort of unsavoury things you would like to see happen to a bonsai thief.

Having your art stolen is the best compliment an artist can get. Unfortunately!

Bonsai theft can be a problem but I don't think that it happens all that often. Not saying it doesn't just not as often as most think it does.
