Spring around the Corner?

If you think that the mall is rushing the Christmas season, you should see my garden. Some of the plants think it's spring. Oaks are leafing out while the apple tree is shedding its leaves (as seen in the quince photo). The weather has been a bit crazy on California's Central Coast (its been in the low 80's F).

Two photos as examples:
A barberry and a flowering quince

I can assure you the weather i crazy everywhere else aswell. All my trees are naked and sleeping, yet the cherries and lilacs are flowering.

yes, in California we have a phenomenon known as "Second Spring." It usually occcurs in October, but this year we're experiencing an usually warm November as well.....an extended indian summer.....my roses go crazy, my callas are up and blooming already, it's a wonderful time of the year. I do predict, however, in about a week or two we'll begin to have our rainy season, which will be very welcome, because the hills are so golden and dry and in fire danger. The rain will be welcome and refreshing.
Because of this warmer weather I've been fertilizing my bonsai a bit longer than usual, and they are responding. I don't mind the new growth because I'm right on the coast and not in a frosty area....as you are too, in Sta. Maria. Enjoy the good weather while it lasts....and then enjoy the changes of winter too.
