Spines on brazilian rain tree

Can the spines on a Brazilian Raint Tree bonsai be safely pruned back?

yes, cut away! they sure do hurt. and, the trimmings that fall around my bench, too, don't seem to decompose. made the mistake of walking out there bare-footed, yee-owww!!! love those raintrees, mine are really taking off right now

I leave the spines on mine also. It adds to the natural character of the tree. The spines of a BRT are nothing in pare to a foemina juniper. Now they are prickly.

Most people around here clip em (cause they hurt). Mine's in the growing stage so I don't have to touch it... but as soon as it needs work those little buggers are getting snipped.

And yea... there is nothing like bare feet + clippings from a rain tree........ow ow ow!
