Sphagnum Moss
I have a question about sphagnum moss. I recently saw a bag of 'dried' long fiber Sphagnum Moss at Home Depot. My question, does the dried sphagnum moss work the same as fresh? for instance would someone rather use fresh for air-layers and such? Or will the dried work just as good?
Thanks Adam |

Adam,
Dried is fine. In fact, I've never even heard of "fresh" sphagnum moss. Use it "whole" for air-layers (moistened, of course) and screened for top-of-soil dressing after repotting. DO NOT, however, inhale it or work with it with uncovered wounds on your hands. Always use a breathing filter mask when working with spagnum moss. Andy,
Thanks for the info. Just what I was looking for. As for "fresh" sphagnum moss I could have sworn I read something about it somewhere. But my memory often deceives me ![]() Thank you for the warning also. I do remember hearing of someone that was rather well known dying from inhaling the spores. I plan on wearing surgical latex gloves and a particle mask as well. Thanks again Adam |
