Species ID?
I purchased this little tree about two years ago. It was mis-labeled as a forsythia. Last year since it only had two branches at the very top of the tree I cut it down to ground level to be replaced by an emerging bud I noticed. Any ideas as to what this is? it really likes full sun, and grows thick fleshy white roots. Here's some pics

here's another pic of the overall tree.
I pruned off many of the leaves close to the trunk in hopes that the light exposure would induce new branches to grow. I know it should be planted in the ground, but I've been moving quite a bit lately. A big pot is the best i can do. right now it's in a one gallon can. I'd like to use it in a root over rock eventually |

I think its Zelkova Serrata.

Is it deciduous? This tree does drop it's leaves in the winter.

I think that it could be Zelkova too. If it drops its leaves in the winter then it is either deciduous, or dead. |

I think this is that newly-discovered species known as Los Alamos Pine which is known for having needles that have mutated into broad leaves. It is recognized by its ability to glow in the dark and to make clicking noises when approached. It should only be pruned during a UFO episode. Or it might be a forsythia. |

Atomic jokes aside, it was purchased in California along with a correctly labeled forsythia. my tree never bloomed and the leaves were very different in shape. I'm pretty sure it's not a forsythia.
It may be a Zelkova, do theey have opposite or alternating leaves? BTW you've never seen bonsai until you seem plutonium induced bonsai |

Not Zelkova, no way...
Some shrub/bush or other - not even a tree. IMNSHO of course... Jerry Amsterdam
