Jay,
Its a great looking tree!
You can cut off the heavy roots, plant them in soil and use them to grow new trees!
Pack the cut area of the original trunk with sphagnum moss and new fine roots will grow in place of the heavy ones.

Nope just moisten it and pack the cut areas. Cover with plastic and keep the moss moist. Re-moisten as needed.
Keep us posted.

A short club meeting demo I did with one ( "normal" leaf variety) in Florida a couple years ago with stock given to me by Jim Smith for the program.

Here are two with "normal" leaf that I've been playing with. For me, these develope airial roots faster than any other ficus I use. During the summer they produce airial roots like crazy and during the winter , under lights, they produce roots over the sides of the pots and down to the trays they are on and run all over the trays.
I thought they would be fun for trapping some unearthly souls resting for too long under the branches of the trees.

Heres another that I wish I could get into a more shallow pot...but can't.

BTW, yours seem to me to be the "dwarf leaf" variety which seems more popular in Florida but doesn't seem to 'trunk-up" as fast or get anywhere near the amount of airial roots. Jim had 3 leaf varieties available in stock.

Dale,
Did you do this one for a Treasure Coast Bonsai Society meeting? If so, I believe I may have seen you style that tree.

Charles,
No you weren't there I'm pretty sure this was "B.C." ...
"Before Charles"
I lose track of which club is which in Florida but I'm thinking the Vero Beach club? Is that Treasure Coast?
