I found this on shohin-europe.com, a great little site thats growing.
I never realised there were so many size categories! The measure is taken from the rim of the pot to the top of the tree. Oomono-bonsai is 61cm to 90cm and is carried by one man alone. Chuhin-bonsai measures from 36cm to 60cm Kifu-bonsai is 21cm up to 35cm. Gafu-bonsai, or Miyabi-Bonsai, is 15cm up to 25cm in height. A gafu-bonsai is a extraordinary artisticly valuable bonsai. Shohin-bonsai is 20cm - 23 cm or less in height, and includes the following subcategories: Mini-bonsai, 7-10cm. Bean-bonsai or Mame-bonsai is 7cm or less.
