This site is rather confusing...
Well I'm new here, and this site seems to be laid out poorly, or perhaps I'm just not looking hard enough. But when you click on someone's name, I would expect to be brought to their page, where I could see their most recently uploaded pictures, and see all of their information. I would also expect to see on the toolbar at the top of the screen something like "my profile" that would be in a Myspacey kind of sense you "home base", where I could upload photos, look through my own gallery, or utilize my buddy list. But I see none of this... am I missing something or does this site need a makeover?
This is all very frustrating. If someone would direct me to the link to upload photos, or look at photos on someone else's profile, that would be swell. I'm a member of an art site called "deviantart", where the "submit deviation" icon is on every page...here that link is nonexistent. The buddy list is a drop-down list that's on your profile...if only this site were designed like that... T.T |

To upload pics into your gallery, click on the Gallery link at the top, and then look to the right of the screen for the Upload Photos link. If you want to put them in a discussion, you have to start a thread first. Hope this helps.

But it isn't. Maybe because the emphasis is not on authorship so its not that important to have personal pages. The site is mostly a place to exchange opinions, advice and critiques of the brave ones who post their trees. It works great for that.

Confusing
Welcome to BT. This is a forum geared towards sharing knowledge and promoting discussion of Bonsai. It does not focus on people... although sometimes everyone seems to forget that.
I'm not sure everyone would here would agree with your statement that this site is poorly designed or confusing or that it should be just like "devianart". I think your statement sounds just a bit selfish. Expressing your frustration in this manner isn't really going to encourage anyone here to offer any assistance. This site is very easy to use and it may take a little time and effort on your part to learn how it all works. It's free... so complaining about it probably will not get you anywhere. Put in a little effort. If you hope to succeed in Bonsai you'll have to have a lot of patience. |

I am a relative PC nerd at 70 yrs of age.
I do find this site very easy to navigate. There are some of us that do not have what you refer to as my spacey because we have not posted a gallery You can however go to our page, and send a personal message and ask that person if they have picture's for you. Pup

I was going to reply earlier today when I first read this post. I think it was a good idea not to reply at the time. I would have definately stepped on some toes. Ten at the most.

Myspace has an audience. Devinatart has a different audience and this site has yet a different audience. You can't expect them all to be the same. Hope you enjoy your stay. ![]() |

The site uses one of the most popular "standard" platforms available for internet forums, specifically tailored by our good controller Matt to suit the needs of the Bonsai community.
As such, this is not meant to be a site to rival "Myspace" or "Facebook" etc... People can easily communicate on here and post up photo's of Bonsai and discuss various things. It was never (and will never be) the place to leave information about what you do on a day to day basis in everyday life. Spend more time on here, and you will see it all works very well Ian. |

Another thing to consider is that whenever you try a new forum, it is a bit awkward at first and you may fumble around. Kind of like the first time you...
Well anyway, just stick with it a bit and I think you'll enjoy this place. |
