Yes, I do mostly tropical or sub tropical trees. The pictures are a
Buttonwood (from Florida) and two Fukien Teas. I would think that you could put a Serissa in an ICU out doors, but you don't want the sun on the ICU or you will have a very cripy (well-cooked) tree. A safer bet is to do it indoors in a bright, but not in direct sunlight coming through the windows!

Lee O:
If you can obtain a large plastic Bag from a cleaning establishment, the kind they use to put over a suit or dress, you can then construct a wire frame from Hangers or the heavier aluminum wire you use to wrap a Bonsai Branch. Place the bag over the wire frame. Just try and construct the frame to go around your tree, but make it large enough so that the branches (and leaves) do not touch the plastic. Remove the frame and bag every 24 hours for about 15 minutes to alow a change of air. This will keep down any chance of mold or a fungus from developing. I hope this helps! Any further questions... Just ask!!! ![]()

Just remember to take it out of the ICU for about 15 minutes to change the air. This avoids fungus or mold. Don't be surprised, if you see condensation on the inside of the plastic.....
By the way, a nice looking ICU!!

Thanks clrosner. I used as you said a bag from the dry cleaners, it fitted like a glove, although i ran out so had to make do with some other plastic for one side.I also left the bottom free of plastic so i can lift it over the tree once a day for fresh air.
Thanks for the tip i just hope it helps. Cheers Lee |

Hi a question for clrosner really.
Today was 1st time we have some sunshine since i put my Serrisa in the icu. I've just got in from work, and lifted the icu off my tree to give it some fresh air, in doing so i've noticed some mould on it that wasn't there yesterday, i know in one of your replys that you said it shouldn't be in direct sunlight, which it was, so i guess this is the reason for the mould? The thing is i dont have anywhere else that i could put it where it gets good light other than outside.. Would it be plausible to raise the icu up an inch or so to allow for air circulation?thus keeping it indoors, or is that defeating the object of having a icu? or should i put it outside in indirect sunlight? Thanks...... P.S i forgot to mention that i misted it last night before putting the icu back over it!!!!!!!!!!! Last edited by lee_0 : 4-Jun-2008 at 02:15 PM. |

lee I think you will find that the mold is from lack of circulation/overly damp inside the tent. Try to change the air a time or two more a day, I think this will help. The idea of the tent in the first place is to keep a fairly high constant humidity to help the leaves which are trying to draw water from the roots(which are recovering now) by keeping the leaves from drying in the first place.
It might work to raise it permanantly(ridding of the mold), but it does defeat the intended purpose by basically letting the dry apartment air fill the tent constantly.
