Dear Forum members:
K3JAE is absolutely correct about taking any Forum advice with a grain of salt. We all have different out door environments, and ywo identical trees may have been raised in different parts of their country of origin. I, for one, only give information that I feel will work on most trees. I am specifically talking about the use of a plastic bag or as I call it my ICU. Creating a mini-greenhouse is just a way to protect an ailing tree from further abuse from pests or bad weather. A weakened tree will attract pests, and the ICU is my way of fending off those pests, and also to give the tree a humid atmosphere to help in its recovery.. Once a tree is in a weakened condition there are things one should consider before attempting to revive the tree. The first thing is to leave the tree alone. Do not fertilize or over water; if the tree has been recently repotted, since the roots can not take up water as readily as before the repotting. Keeping out of direct sunlight is, also, important for a few weeks. Remember a tree does not want to die, and Ma Nature has given the tree many ways to survive. In general terms, talk to people in your area for advice on the care of a specific tree. That is why I have always touted joining a club, if there is one in your area. When I was younger (my late 60's) My wife and I used to drive two hours to Delaware to a Bonsai club. But, at 78, the four hour round trip is just too much for me... The forums have been a boon to my Bonsai education, and I stress that researching and reading will never take the place of a club, but when there is no alternative, like a reporter, try to get more than one source for the answer to your current problem. Good luck to you all!!!

Yes, that is exactly, what I do. In fact I buried a cotoneaster and a couple other trees in my flower bed.
