Serissa That Needs Restyling
but it was very cheap, worth it for the pot alone, but while i have it i will have a go at restyling it, get away from the too heavy broom style, and use that lower branch somehow.

Larry, Thanks for posting up your picture. With regards to the broom style, I am not sure if there's anything else you can really re-style it to at the moment. I would stick to something like the formal upright or something like a variation on the broom style, however, if you utilize that lower left hand branch, you run the risk of too many branches coming from the same side of the trunk. The higher one is a lot thicker and mature. I included a semi-virtual for you. I think that you should stick with the broom style. THe tree needs to be opened a bit. Too many leaves still at the base of the branches. Aside from that, the trunk is nice, and so you can still make a very good situation out of this tree. The red lines are where I'd bend the "outter" brances, and then bend all the internal branches to compliment those outter lying ones. The blue line is a suggested positioning for that smaller lower branch, if you choose to keep it. Anyways, let me know what you think. Good luck, Dane |

i really like the virtual you did.But you could actually try to force backbudding by hardpruning and creating a circular foliage pad by uniting the lower virtual pad

D3rutat You are absolutely right, most trees when hard pruned will amaze you with the growth that they shoot right back at you!~ My biggest concern was the fact that the trunk kept going to the right towards the actual broom. I kept the lower branch in the virt becuase the 2 different amounts of foliage on either side will create the illusion (I HOPE) that the trunk is tapering. Anyways, hardpruning is a great suggestion! Thanks for the info Dane.
I'm not sure keeping the lower branch will work with broom style tho, plus theres a heavy chop been done at some time, looks nasty inside the head.A thick stem that suddenly terminates. If you look on my original picture you'll see where the trunk forks, the right hand fork is a stump. But your idea about bending the branches is kinda how i was thinking. But will wait till its flowered i think, i want to see the flowers! Lets just hope i can keep it!

I did hardpruning on my serissa and got lots of new buds even from the trunk .And serissa is a natural backbudder as long as kept healthy.I really like the virtual and that's the way i would go with it aswell. Watch out for wiring, i wouldn't suggest normal copper/aluminum wire, instead use string(the one used for sewing/sowing clothes can't remeber the correct word). Serissa's break thin branches very easy,
