Schefflera brutally attacked!

By me!

A chop here and a whack there, and three nice sized cuttings later all that's left is a trunk with stubs for branches . . . no leaves left.

This was the first bonsai that I ever bought so I hope it makes it! It was doing quite well prior to the attack so its wait and see now . . .

good job. Just completely defoliated my large banyan style sheff last weekend -- do it almost every summer here in NJ. Be careful -- don't overwater before the foliage comes back.

Will try to get a picture posted this weekend.

I must admit . . . this whole procedure makes me nervous. This bonsai is quite special to me in a number of ways. I really hope it makes it.

Don't worry.

If David says you're okay with a sheff, you're okay.

Thumbs up

Good future in this tree with branch placement and rootage.
As you have already been reassured that this is a much needed task to perform with Arbs., I further advise placing your tree in full sun for as long as you can. They bounch back within a couple weeks from this defoliation process.

Well, its been three weeks and all but one of the branches has put out new leaves. There are also at least four new branches that are in the works on this little tree. I am pleased with the results, I just hope that the one branch will put out some new growth. It would really hamper the overall design if it doesn't.

Scheff's take a pretty good beating and bounce back nicely. This is a pic of one that started off pretty much the same way yours is. Got some ways to go before it stops lookin like a mallsai, but as you are with yours, I like this one alot.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Paul
