A chop here and a whack there, and three nice sized cuttings later all that's left is a trunk with stubs for branches . . . no leaves left. This was the first bonsai that I ever bought so I hope it makes it! Just completely defoliated my large banyan style sheff last weekend -- do it almost every summer here in NJ. Be careful -- don't overwater before the foliage comes back. As you have already been reassured that this is a much needed task to perform with Arbs., I further advise placing your tree in full sun for as long as you can. There are also at least four new branches that are in the works on this little tree. I am pleased with the results, I just hope that the one branch will put out some new growth. Scheff's take a pretty good beating and bounce back nicely. This is a pic of one that started off pretty much the same way yours is. Got some ways to go before it stops lookin like a mallsai, but as you are with yours, I like this one alot.
