Schefflera - Branch Turning Black!

Good day!

I had a branch on the front of my schefflera that was growing pretty wild, so I cut it back a bit. Normally when I cut the branches, within a week or so I see new growth ...

This time, its turning black. So I cut it back more, to rid of the black (but am still in the green part of the branch), and its turning black again.

Any ideas?

thanks!

JasonG.

Jason,

you might try disinfecting your shears before you cut again....and i'd wait until it's plenty warm before cutting much of anything off a scheff...make sure it is actively growing before pruning.
good luck,

andy

Jason,

1. You may be overwatering. If so, cut back. Scheffleras do not require a lot of water.

2. Spray with a fungicide at half-strength.

3. Check for any aphid or scale infestations. If you find any, use an insecticidal soap spray at full strength.

4. Give the plant sunlight and plenty of fresh air if your weather permits at this time of year.

Good luck.

Gary
