Scar Marks

I bought a ficus benjamina and after I bought it I noticed it had some scar marks from wire left on too long. My question is, will these marks go away? If not is there anything that I can do to speed up the trees recovery? The scars aren't that deep and the bark has hardened up around them. Its a cool looking tree but it just has these scars that make me cringe.

Do you have a photo? We'd need to see the marks to have any idea. Marks fade over time and sometimes scars are introduced intentionally. Deep scars from thin wires almost never go away. In some cases they can contribute to the character of the tree. In other cases the swelling can actually get worse.

Regards,

Matt

I can get a photo but I am at work right now. The marks seem to be make from thin wire so they may be there forever. I was thinking about promoting ariel roots to cover it up but I am unsure about the time it takes and the weather here has been very unstable.

Thumbs up

Wire marks on ficus will meld into the trunk over time. Depends on how vigorous it grows during the summer.. may take 3 years maybe more.. had to say not know your growing environment. Pot it into a larger pot for awhile and grow it on.. Early summer is a good time for repotting tropicals.

.. awaiting pics...

Heh heh. A google ad for PROACTIV (acne treatment) just came up on this page. There's an idea!

jolio99,

im interested in seeing the pics, but it would also help if you entered your location information in your profile. it would be easier to determine how vigorous the tree might grow depending on where you are.

jeff
